Guus Hiddink Is Yet to Extend Contract with Russia
Chief coach of Russia's football team, Guus Hiddink hasn’t extended the contract with Russia’s Football Union despite his words about the readiness to continue to train the team and fight for the final at 2010 FIFA World Cup, Soviet Sport reported.
According to the sources, Guus Hiddink conditioned sealing the contract to a number of requirements. Amid the demands are building a training center for the national team, a new office for Russia’s Football Union (RFU) and taking some other actions to develop the infrastructure of Russia’s football.
Cees van Nieuwenhuizen, who is the agent of the coach, refused to specify the provisions disputed by the parties but pointed out that he had sent a few letters to RFU, prompting it to set to negotiations, to no avail though. There was no response, the agent said, adding that Britain’s media had asked Hiddink already whether he would become the coach of their squad.
Today’s contract with Hiddink remains in force till the end of the Euro 2008 that will be held in Austria and Switzerland in summer. The new contract is to be inked till the end of 2010 FIFA World Cup that will be hosted by South Africa. Exactly Hiddink led the Russians to the Euro 2008 finals.
