Rockets to Blast Off from Vostochny Spaceport in 2018
The first launches of manned spaceships from Vostochny spaceport are slated for 2018, Russia’s First Vice Premier Sergei Ivanov announced today.
“The decision is final. On November 6, the president inked a decree to set up a new cosmodrome that will be located in the Amur region. Its name is Vostochny,” Ivanov said, specifying that construction will take ten years.
The experimental and development work will take two years, while the first launches of space vehicles are slated for 2015.
”By 2018, we will ensure the launch of manned programs,” the first vice premier announced, without specifying the project budget. “In essence, it will be necessary to build a new town.”
Construction of a new cosmodrome won’t effect relations of Russia and Kazakhstan, Ivanov hoped.
