Opposition Drops Dialogue with Georgian Authorities
The coalition of opposition parties in Georgia announced Monday they drop dialogue with Parliament Speaker Nino Burjanadze. The respective statement was made by Georgy Tortladze, member of For United Georgia Movement.
Authorities make no concessions, Tortladze said, specifying that the opposition calls for resuming operation of Imedi TV Co. and releasing demonstrators detained November 7, 2007, to no avail though.
For opposition, the last resort is to rally again, Tortladze pointed out. The authorities only pretend that are in dialogue and ready to compromise. In reality, the amendments to Election Code that resulted from the dialogue have made the laws even more intricate, Tortladze said.
In the ruling party, they view the opposition statement about breaking the dialogue as another PR action. Pavel Kublashvili, who stands for the ruling United National Movement Party in talks with the opposition, assured that the authorities carry on the dialogue for all topics that concern the opposition, making reasonable concessions for the sake of stability.
