AvtoVAZ Isn’t Optimistic about Euro 3
AvtoVAZ management is bluntly negative about proceedings for introducing the Euro 3 standard in Russia, chief of AvtoVAZ Group Boris Aleshin told reporters Monday.
“I don’t like Euro 3. I don’t think it acceptable. The government has reversed the points to consumers and producers,” Aleshin commented on decision of authorities to introduce ecological Euro 3 standard for new cars starting from January 1, 2008.

The changes, Aleshin went on, will affect the cost of cars, forcing the carmaker to hike prices, which will ultimately affect the consumers.

”This practice is applied nowhere in the world,” Aleshin said, referring to the introduction of ecological standards in Europe and specifying that the governments have backed up new requirements.

Aleshin said AvtoVAZ will step up car production “at least by 30,000” in 2008. “It mostly relates to Niva, which we currently lack in production.”

Meanwhile, Russia intends to introduce even tougher ecological standards. Euro 4 is expected to take effect in 2010, while the launch of Euro 5 is slated for 2012 through 2014.
