Fed Council Approved Moratorium on CFE Treaty
Russia’s upper house of parliament, the Federation Council has unanimously approved today the moratorium on CFE Treaty inked in Paris November 19, 1990.
Now it is for Russia's president to decide when to lift the moratorium. The bill will become a law on the day of official promulgation.
Vladimir Putin sealed July 14, 2007 the Decree On Suspending by the Russian Federation the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe and Related International Treaties. According to the decree, the root cause of the moratorium is extraordinary circumstances related to the content of CFE Treaty of November 19, 1990 that affect Russia’s safety and call for immediate actions.
Earlier, Putin blamed the moratorium on the U.S. plans to station missile defense shield in Poland and the Czech Republic.
