Russia Closed Air for Bundeswehr Jet
On Wednesday, Russia’s aviation authorities closed the air for a cargo jet of Bundeswehr heading for an air base in Uzbek Termeze, Spiegel Online reported.
Having reached the air of Russia, the jet was forced to fly back to Berlin. It emerged Russia’s authorities had granted the permit on Tuesday, but the flight was shelved for a day due to the dust storm in Termeze.
In German Air Forces, they were apparently surprised by the accident, saying the Bundeswehr jets make flights to Termeze twice a week and getting the permit had been always an ordinary procedure. The flight of that jet was the matter of Russia’s good will, they said.
Russia’s aviation leadership hasn’t commented yet.
Germany requested the permit after the accident, and it was given in no time. The jet is due to fly from Berlin Thursday, at around 8:30 a.m. local time (10:30 a.m. MSK). It will deliver to Uzbekistan food, ammunition and roughly 200 servicemen that will be further moved to Afghanistan.
Bundeswehr uses the airbase in Uzbek Termeze under the joint operation of international peacekeeping forces in Afghanistan.
