Georgia to Lift Emergency November 16
The state of emergency will be lifted in Georgia November 16, 2007, promised Parliament Speaker Nino Burjanadze.
Burjanadze said the regime in Georgia will be normal, peaceful and democratic again once the state of emergency is lifted. The speaker urged to do utmost to maintain stability and order, to continue democratic construction and to strengthen democratic values in the country.

But the efforts to overcome political crisis shouldn’t be dropped and it is necessary to proceed with political consultations with the opposition, Burjanadze pointed out. The authorities count on attaining an agreement with the opposition for the sake of democratic and fair elections in the country.

Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili imposed the state of emergency after the riot police broke up opposition rallies in downtown Tbilisi. Saakashvili also scheduled early presidential elections for January 5, 2007.
