Dollar Opens Up on MICEX
The U.S. dollar has surged on Moscow Interbank Currency Exchange (MICEX) this morning. It gained 5 kopecks to the official rate of exchange by 10:30 a.m. MSK. The current weighted average rate is 24.54 ruble/dollar.
The analysts point to aggressiveness of commercial banks on domestic market of foreign exchange. The turnover exceeded $200 million as of 10:20 a.m. MSK, i.e. just in 20 minutes after the start of the Unified Trading Session (UTS).

The dollar is gaining vs. Russia’s ruble for the second trading day. It grew 4 kopecks a day before.

The healthy gains of the U.S. currency root in its appreciation to euro on international exchanges. A euro cost $1.4591 at 10:00 a.m. MSK, though the yesterday’s price was $1.4649 and it cost $1.4712 two trading days ago. Globally, the euro has weakened to dollar by 0.4 percent since November 12 and 0.8 percent since November 9.
