U.S. Missile Defense Shield in Europe Aimed At Russia
The components of missile defense shield that the United States is planning to station in Europe are clearly aimed at Russia, said Chief of the RF General Staff, Army General Yuri Baluevsky.
”If the Americans plan to set up a radar [in Czechia] by 2011 and interceptors [in Poland] by 2012, 2013, these interceptors and this radar will be unambiguously targeted against Russia. It could be proved as an axiom,” Baluevsky told Russia Today TV company.

”I think, in the United States, someone yet wants, choosing may words carefully, to attempt to tackle the tasks by the weapon that they have in the United States. But to solve these tasks, it is necessary to have all grounds that using this weapon won’t provoke a counterstroke. Ensuring impunity of using own weapon without any response is driving the people that propose to the U.S. president to set up a global missile defense system. And its direction in Europe is clearly not towards Iran,” Baluevsky specified.
