Fire in Elderly House Killed At Least 23
The death toll of fire in the Tula region’s elderly house reached 23, RBC reported with reference to the Central Regional Office of the RF Emergency Ministry.
According to the previous reports, the fire killed five of 293 residents of the elderly house.
The number of victims of this extent isn’t surprising. The personal of elderly house set the alarm only half an hour after the fire began, which delayed the evacuating effort of Emergency Ministry’s officers.
The State Fire Supervision Service (Gospozhnadzor) inspected the building in December 2006 and in March and June of 2007, always finding the absence of fire automatic alarm system there. The files of inspections were forwarded to the courts so that the criminal actions would be initiated by their results, to no avail though.
The fire in elderly house of Velie-Nikolskoe village of the Tula region (90km to Tula’s south-west) raged November 4, 2007. It began at 1:20 p.m. MSK, was localized at 4:10 p.m. MSK and finally put out at 6:25 p.m. MSK.
