Russia Closed Air for German Lufthansa Cargo
Russia’s aviation authorities have banned Lufthansa Cargo from making flights over Russia’s territory. The ban took effect October 28, Die Welt reported.
Lufthansa Cargo flies from Europe to Astana, Kazakhstan, delivering cargo to all Asia from there. The ban will step up the company’s costs and force it to choose less convenient routes, said Nils Haupt, who is the briefer at Lufthansa Cargo.
In Europe’s airlines, they think that Russia charges too much for flying above its soil. In response to the ban on Lufthansa Cargo flights, Germany will probably bar Aeroflot’s cargo aircraft from landing in Frankfurt airport.
Lufthansa Cargo is one of the biggest cargo carriers, making the flights in 450 directions. Its 2006 revenues reached ˆ2.84 billion.
