RUSAL Yielded Leader’s Position
United Rio Tinto Alcan has announced via the web it is a new global leader in aluminum production.
Britain’s-Australian mining company, Rio Tinto emerged as an absolute leader once it completed takeover of 79.4 percent in Canada’s aluminum producer Alcan. The deal budget reached $38.1 billion. As a result, the share of aluminum in Rio Tinto’s output stepped up from 9 percent to 32 percent.

United RUSAL of Russia fell to the second place. The company had won the leading standing on consolidation of RUSAL, SUAL and the alumina assets of Glencore. That deal was finalized in late March of 2007.

Today’s RUSAL annually produces 3.9 million tons of aluminum and 11.3 million tons of alumina. But united Rio Tinto Alcan will make 4.3 million tons of aluminum and 8.7 million tons of alumina.

U.S. Alcoa that also attempted to buy out Alcan is the last of the global trio.
