Russia Leads in Europe in Gastarbeiters Number
Russia is Europe’s leader in number of migrants. It accounts for 48 percent of all gastarbeiters going to Europe for earnings, RIA Novosti reported with reference to Federal Migration Service chief Konstantin Romodanovsky.
Of those earnings, the gastarbeiters send 65 percent, or 13 billion rubles, to the homeland. The money earned in Russia accounts for over 30 percent of GDPs of Tadjikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Moldova.

The annual impact of migrants in Russia’s economy amounts to $50 billion, Federal Migration Service announced some time earlier.

The bureaucrats say roughly 1.65 million labor migrants have been officially registered in Russia, while roughly 2 million gastarbeiters work here illegally. The actual figures are much higher, according to independent analysts.

The migrants tend to conceal their revenues, as they face the income tax of 30 percent instead of 13 percent that is in force for Russia’s residents. In Russia, a resident is a person, who has officially lived in the country longer than half-year.
