Prosecutor Demands 9 Years of Colony for Berezovsky
The prosecutor pressed for nine years of colony detention for exiled oligarch Boris Berezovsky during the trial at Moscow Savelovsky Court dedicated to the Aeroflot case. Prosecuting Attorney Alexander Koblyakov urged to find the businessman guilty of fraud and laundering, RIA Novosti reported with reference to lawyer Alexander Dudkin, who was committed to stand for Berezovsky in the trial.
Once the Kremlin’s mastermind but today’s resident of Britain, Boris Berezovsky is accused of involvement in the theft of over 214 million rubles from Aeroflot. As Berezovsky enjoys the political refugee status in Britain and Britain’s authorities always reject to extradite him, it was decided to hold the trial in absentia.
The court committed lawyer Alexander Dudkin to stand for Berezovsky, as the businessman told his defense lawyers not to take part in the trial. Dudkin said he doesn’t hope to win the case and doesn’t care about it.
The trial was adjourned till October 29, when the floor will be given to Berezovsky’s defense.
