Missile defense Japan U.S.
Russia is concerned about the U.S.- Japan’s cooperation in part of creating a global missile defense system, RF Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told Japan’s journalists on the threshold of his working visit to that country.

”We are against creating the missile defense systems targeted at ensuring military superiority. Deployment of such systems may boost the arms race both at regional and global scale. The foundation of strategic stability is being shaken, which leads to the growth of unpredictability in this vital field of the global balance maintenance,” Lavrov emphasized.

The minister said he was well aware of Tokyo’s fears in respect of the North Korean threat. But the missiles of North Korea won’t reach the United States and it unveils the real target of these facilities, according to Lavrov.

And it appears the chief diplomat of Russia has reasons for agitation. Indeed, quite a few analysts say this system that will emerge as a part of the global anti-missile shield of the United States could be equally operated against the strategic weapons of Russia and China.
