Moldova Calls For Russia’s Troops Withdrawal
Moldova will ratify the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE Treaty) provided Russia pulls all its troops out of the country, Interfax reported with reference to Moldova’s Foreign Minister Andrei Stratan.
Stratan expressed disappointment by Russia’s standing in respect of the CFE Treaty during the news conference held in Chisinau Tuesday. “The Republic of Moldova feels regret about Russia’s position on the issue and stands for solving all problems by negotiations,” Stratan announced, pointing out that Chisinau presses for withdrawal of Russia’s troops from Moldova and insists that Russia will commit obligations taken at the Istanbul summit of OSCE in 1999.

At the OSCE summit in Madrid, Stratan went on, they would demand releasing a special resolution on Moldova or reflecting the actual situation in the country in the final document.

But the minister’s comments on the progress in cooperation of Russia and Moldova were friendlier. Moldova’s relations with Russia are rather good and their recent dynamics are positive, Stratan said. The discussions on Transdniestria continue, and the standing of Russia is “rather constructive.” Stratan also hailed Russia’s participation in the three-plus-two discussions of the intermediaries and observers for Transdniestria’s settlement that Vienna hosted October 11.
