Poland Threatens to Block Russia’s Entry to WTO
Poland’s authorities have again threatened to block Russia’s entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO). The reason is the same – Russia’s embargo on the meat/vegetable imports from Poland.
It was Poland’s Deputy Agriculture Minister Jan Krzysztof Ardanowski that voiced the threat, Vesti TV Channel reported. Poland won’t oppose Russia’s membership in WTO provided the ban is lifted.

At the same time, Mr Ardanowski emphasized the general unwillingness of Poland to block the talks, saying such strong nation as Russia should be the WTO member. But Poland has to tie up the embargo and signing an agreement between Russia and the EU, the deputy minister explained.

If Russia refuses to lift the ban, Ardanowski said, Poland will also oppose concluding a new agreement of Russia and the EU. It is worth mentioning, however, that Poland has blocked the respective negotiations already.

Russia banned meat and vegetable supplies from Poland in November 2005, giving falsification of veterinary certificates as the reason.
