Belarus to Construct Own Nuclear Plant, Lukashenko Vowed
Construction of a nuclear power plant is one of the guarantees of national security of the country, vowed President Alexander Lukashenko.
”We are clear – creation of our own nuclear power is the variant of no alternative to guarantee our national security,” Lukashenko announced Thursday during the meeting dedicated to preparation of nuclear plant construction.

”Belarus won’t last without a nuclear plant, so it is necessary to construct it and we will be constructing it,” Lukashenko was emphatic.

The decision on nuclear plant project, the president pointed out, wasn’t dictated by “some political ambition, but rather by the need to ensure our energy security in the environment of depleting global oil and gas reserves, breaks of supplies and continuously rising prices for them.”
