Russia’s Image to Be Concern of State Agency
Russia’s Economic Development and Trade Ministry suggests establishing a state agency, which sole purpose will be worldwide promotion of Russia, Vedomosti reported.
The ministry submitted to the government the Program for Improving Russia’s Image Overseas. The program suggests setting up a state agency that will arrange exhibitions, trade fairs and seminars abroad, be in charge of trips of foreign businessmen to Russia’s regions and disseminate positive information about the country. The plans are to release articles in all local media and arrange news tours for reporters.

The bureaucrats have elaborated the PR-program for 33 states with regard to their peculiarities. In Brazil, they assumed, it is necessary to promote Russia’s goods, as the information on Russia’s exports is far from adequate there. But in Germany, Russia’s image will be bolstered by reports of lawyers, scientists, figures of culture.

According to the ministry, each spent dollar will yield four dollars of net profits. The analysts say Russia will pay $200 million to $300 million for the whole campaign. For comparison, the Czech Republic annually spends $12 million to $13 million for PR, while Britain allocates $700 million for this purpose.
