Only Best Moldovan Wines for Russia
Prices on Moldovan wines will be higher once import is renewed than they were before the ban on them in March 2006, Moldova Vin agency general director Valery Mironesky told a press conference in Chisinau. Mironesky explained that only the highest-quality wines will be exported to Russia. he added that Moldovan vintners expect to regain the position they once held on the Russian market.
So far, according to Moldova Vin information, only 14 Moldovan wine and cognac producers have received permits to begin exports of 290 products to Russia again, with another five state-owned enterprises waiting to receive their permits in the immediate future.

Russia banned Moldovan alcohol imports in March 2006 citing the presence of pesticides and heavy metals in them. Until that time, Russia accounted for 80 percent of the export market for Moldovan wines and cognacs. Moldovan alcohol exports were reduced to less than a fifth of their 2005 level by the Russian ban.
