Moldova Resumes Wine Exports to Russia
Moldova resumes today the exports of wine/wine product to Russia, RBC reported with reference to Moldova-Vin Agency.
Moldova-Vin Agency has been accepting applications for the state stamps from companies that are ready to resume exports of wine and wine product to Russia and that have the respective permits of Russia’s supervising authority Rospotrebnadzor.

After obtaining the stamps (which takes just a day), the companies will set to shipping the wine to Russia via respective customs stations and to the terminal determined by Russia.

The export resumption, representatives of Moldova-Vin specified, is the result of Dushanbe meeting of Russia’s and Moldova’s presidents. The problem of Moldova’s wine deliveries to Russia is yet unsolved for technical reasons, not the political ones, Moldova’s President Vladimir Voronin emphasized.

Of 301 samples of Moldova’s wine submitted for expert examination, the positive conclusion was given to 258, which will soon appear in Russia, said Rospotrebnadzor chief Gennady Onishchenko.

The wine was provided by 15 of 17 winemakers chosen by Rospotrebnadzor. The number of exporters will go up depending on the product sort-out, Onishchenko explained.

Russia banned exports of Moldova’s wine and cognac product in March of 2006, claiming heavy metal and pesticides had been found in them.

Previously, Moldova used to export 80 percent of its wine, cognac and sparkling wine to Russia. The ban curtailed the country’s exports 5.5 fold on year in 2006.
