Irakli Okruashvili Released from Prison
Georgia’s former hawkish defense minister Irakli Okruashvili was released from Tbilisi prison past night, Interfax reported.
Okruashvili left prison on the bail of 10 million laris (roughly $6 million). He was convoyed to his house by the police and declined to answer any questions.

On September 25, Okruashvili publicly accused Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili of having arranged the attempted murder of businessman Badri Patarkatsishvili and blamed on the president corrupt practice and intimidation of opposition.

The former minister was detained in two days after it on suspicion of corrupt practice. On October 7, Georgian prosecutors say, Okruashvili admitted guilt on two counts – extortion of a bribe and office negligence.

What’s more, Okruashvili predictably acknowledged that his accusations of Saakashvili don’t correspond to reality.
