Putin Willing to Set Up State Atomic Corp
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has submitted to the State Duma the Bill on Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corp. The bill was registered and forwarded to State Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov.
Once emerged, the Corporation will be a successor to Federal Atomic Energy Agency. Its establishment will complete creation of a unified system for control over the country’s nuclear industry, both its civic and military components.

Atomenergoprom, which creation President Putin finally sanctioned on April 27, 2007, will focus on management and consolidation of the civil portion of nuclear industry.

So, the next task of the government is to set up a structure that will control nuclear weapons, be in charge of nuclear and radiological safety of Russia and manage nuclear science and research activities in addition to civil component. The Unified State Corp. will be created exactly as such body. President Putin first spoke of its establishment in the annual message to Federal Assembly on April 26, 2007.

The State Duma will consider the Bill on Rosatom State Atomic Energy in the first reading on October 11, 2007.
