Russia, U.S. to Agree On Extradition of Criminals
Russia and the United States are elaborating a draft agreement that will spell out the terms for extradition of suspected criminals, RIA Novosti reported with reference to the Investigating Committee of Russia’s Prosecutor General Office.
Russia and the United States have agreed to elaborate an agreement on extraditing suspected criminals, the Investigating Committee of Russia’s Prosecutor General Office reported Wednesday after the committee’s chief Alexander Bastrykin met with U.S. Ambassador William Burns in Moscow.
“The parties have agreed to commit experts of both countries to work out this agreement,” the Investigating Committee announced. “Participants of the meeting noted equal understanding of the need for definite joint steps to fight terrorism, laundering and other crimes.” During the talks, the U.S. party raised issues related to the probe into the murder of The Forbes Russia Editor-in-Chief Paul Klebnikov and Novaya Gazeta investigating journalist Anna Politkovskaya.
“The U.S. ambassador thanked the Investigating Committee of the RF Prosecutor General Office for the work made to unveil these crimes and expressed readiness to render assistance in respect of those cases in any aspects,” the Investigating Committee said.
