Russia Stakes On Mikhalkov’s 12
The Oscar Commission of Russia has nominated Nikita Mikhalkov’s 12 to run for Oscar 2008.
It is by far not the first Oscar nomination for Mikhalkov’s films. His Urga was put forward in 1992 and Burnt by the Sun was picked out for this purpose in 1994. The second choice matched all expectations by winning Oscar for the Best Foreign Language Film.
Under the regulations of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, only the films released from October 1, 2006 to September 30, 2007 could be nominated for Oscar. Of all contenders presented by different states of the world, only five films will compete for the award of the Best Foreign Language Film.
