Russia to Have a Party President
The president in Russia should be a member of some party, said First Vice Premier Dmitry Medvedev. “I see nothing bad in existence of a party president,” Medvedev told reporters during All-Russia’s Media Forum.
In future, Medvedev made clear, Russia’s president “must surely share ideology” of this or that party. According to Medvedev, Russia is ready for a party president today, though such figure “would have torn apart our country” eight to ten years ago.
Asked by RBC news agency whether he would run for presidency, Medvedev was elusive. “There will be enough worthy candidates, both well-expected and unexpected,” Medvedev said.
Medvedev also said he wouldn’t be in United Russia’s list for this year’s elections to the parliament, as he has “other matters of concern.”
Like another First Vice Premier Sergey Ivanov, Dmitry Medvedev hasn’t been affected by the recent change of the cabinet. Both vice premiers, Sergey Naryshkin and Alexander Zhukov, have also maintained their officers.
The cabinet of Mikhail Fradkov resigned September 12. Today’s prime minister in Russia is Viktor Zubkov, who had been in charge of Federal Financial Monitoring Service.
