Sukhoi SuperJet-100 Presented to Public
The prototype of Sukhoi SuperJet-100 was first presented to public at large in Komsomolsk-on-Amur on Wednesday, September 26, 2007.
The so-called wheeling-out of Russia’s aircraft hope, Sukhoi SuperJet-100, was staged at KNAAPO Aircraft Construction Work and attended by First Vice Premier Sergey Ivanov, RIA Novosti reported.
”SuperJet-100 has accumulated elements of labor and talent of Russia’s specialists and of many thousands of people worldwide, members of creators’ team of this unique jet of Russia. I would like to thank the governments of Russia, Italy and France for supporting the project and to thank financial structures for believing in and backing up the program of SuperJet-100," Sukhoi Holding CEO Mikhail Pogosyan said during the ceremony.
This innovative jet that has been projected from scratch by using the latest computer technology will make the first flight already this year.
“The key task for us today is the take-off of the test-bed aircraft. It is planned to start testing engines there in October,” said Saturn Research and Production Association General Director Yury Lastochkin, specifying that SuperJet-100 will probably make its first flight with SaM146 engines already in two months.
The deliveries to the starting client, Russia’s Aeroflot, will begin in November 2008. The portfolio comprises firm orders for 71 jets, including to foreign clients, and it is expected to widen to 100 jets by late 2007.
