Foton-M Starts Deorbiting
Foton-M satellite is exiting from orbit, Interfax reported with reference to Russia’s Mission Control Center.
Foton-M satellite, on which board the experiments with animals and microorganisms were carried out, is en route to the Earth.
“The engines of Foton were activated to give the braking impulse. After it, the satellite’s deorbiting will begin,” said Valery Lyndin, who heads the press service at the Mission Control Center.
Foton-M is due to make a soft touch-down at 11:57 a.m. MSK, roughly 140km from Kustanay, Kazakhstan. The satellite will land by using the parachute system.
On board of the satellite, there are 12 Mongolian mice, 20 tritons, five lizards, 20 snails and thousands of microorganisms. All of them were fed and had water, and the temperature inside the satellite was 24 degree C. The light was switched on and off, depending on the day time.
