Zubkov Will Probably Run for Presidency, Fed Council Speaker Says
Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov may run for presidency in 2008 if the new government succeeds, forecasted Federation Council Speaker Sergey Mironov.
Viktor Zubkov may succeed as prime minister and “the Russians will appreciate it,” Mironov told reporters on Tuesday. The speaker also recalled Zubkov’s words conditioning his participation in presidential elections to results of the work in the PM office.
“I think that, as a very experienced and wise many, Viktor Alexeevich has correctly shaped this approach,” the Federation Council speaker pointed out.
If remarkable achievements in the PM office are attained, they “will certainly tell on his rating as a policymaker and a runner to president’s post,” Mironov added.
The speaker also approved of Zubkov’s style to work with subordinates. Past week, the PM lashed out at the government for delay in implementing Putin’s orders for eliminating the aftereffects of the Sakhalin earthquake. “It isn’t the show, it is his style of working and such demands to subordinates are his credo,” Mironov explained.
