Deripaska to Construct a New Port in Sochi
Basic Element of Oleg Deripaska will construct a cargo port in Imeretin bay near Sochi that will be capable of handling roughly 5 million tons a year, Vedomosti reported. The port will take in vessels of the river-sea class with the deadweight of 5,000 tons. The project budget is estimated at $3 billion.
In addition to handling cargo, the port could be easily upgraded to take in passenger ships and yachts of rich Russians.
The port is by far not the only Sochi project of Basic Element launched on the threshold of 2014 Olympics. It emerged in June 2006 that the holding will construct an Olympic village and a sport palace in the city.
Sochi assets of Basic Element also include a cement works in Tuapse, bypass road around Sochi, new road to Yasnaya Polyana, stadium and hotels in the city.
