IL-76 of Russian Air Force Intrudes Finland’s Airspace
Finland’s Defense Ministry said that IL-76 military-cargo airplane of Russia’s Air Force “apparently” intruded Finland’s airspace on Friday, September 14, and that the intrusion was 4.5 kilometers deep, reported Finland’s STT news agency.
According to Finland, the incident happened around 10:35 a.m. near the city of Porvoo. Finnish frontier services now check the fact of the alleged trespassing of airspace borders.

Finland also claims that Russian airplanes following that route had already intruded Finland’s mid-air before, in August 2005 and April 2006.

In response, Russian Air Force Commander’s Assistant Alexander Drobyshevsky said to Interfax news agency that a special commission was created in the Air Force’s Chief Command, which will “investigate the flight preparation and the flight itself”.

Drobyshevsky explained that the IL-76 was carrying out a regular flight from Chkalovsk airport of Kaliningrad to an airport in Tver Region, using the onboard navigation means. The official added that air traffic control services supervise all flights in the area in question.
