Court Confirms Wrongfulness of Probe into New Charges vs. Khodorkovsky
Presidium of Moscow City Court has confirmed unlawfulness of Chita investigation held against Yukos former chief Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Group MENATEP CEO Platon Lebedev, RIA Novosti reported.
Presidium of Moscow City Court has overruled the appeal of prosecutors against the award of Basmanny Court about illegal nature of Chita investigation, RIA Novosti reported.

The prosecutors continue the crackdown on Khodorkovsky and Lebedev, who are serving eight-year sentences for fraud, tax evasion and laundering 450 billion rubles and $7.5 billion from 1998 to 2004. New accusations mention the theft of stocks from the state, misappropriation of crude oil and laundering funds generated from its sale.

By demand of Prosecutor General Office, Khodorkovsky and Lebedev left colonies for investigatory isolation ward of Chita to withstand another laundering probe. The investigation is completed, the accused are studying files, and none of them has admitted the guilt.

Meanwhile, Basmanny Court of Moscow ruled the Chita investigation wasn’t legal and this award has been sustained by Moscow City Court despite the appeal of prosecutors.
