Moscow Rebuffs Attempts to Tie Up Questioned Territories, G8 Summit
The attempts to tie up the G8 summit to be hosted by Hokkaido in 2008 and territorial disputes of Russia and Japan don’t appear correct, said the RF Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Boris Malakhov.
”We have warned our Japan’s colleagues several times already about counter-productiveness of efforts to make international this purely bilateral problem,” Malakhov emphasized when commenting on the statement of Japan’s Minister of State for Okinawa and Northern Territories Affairs.

We think extremely incorrect, Malakhov went on, “the attempts to tie settlement of Russia’s-Japan’s border demarcation to the events similar to the Group 8 summit, where, as it is known, quite different issues are being canvassed.”
