United States, Poland Neared the Breakthrough
The U.S.-Polish talks about stationing components of the U.S. missile defense shield in Poland neared the breakthrough and the respective agreement could be sealed in the near term, the envoys of both countries announced by results of the first day of their get-together.
According to Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski , who stands for his country in negotiations, the agreement on locating the U.S. missile defense components on Polish soil could be concluded during two or three months.

The negotiations cover very complicated legal issues, including access to the base and its operation, Waszczykowski said. The U.S. counterpart of Waszczykowski, Assistant Secretary of State John Rood pointed out that the progress was attained and that the atmosphere of talks was friendly.

Despite the tough opposition of Moscow, Poland is ready to host 10 ground-based interceptor missiles of the United States, while the Czech Republic will have a radar. But it appears that the nation in Poland isn’t very enthusiastic about the U.S. interceptors. At least 56 percent of the Poles don’t share the plans of leadership for creating the U.S. base with interceptors on their soil and 70 percent don’t think that the government provided all necessary information about the negotiations with the United States.
