Court Sustained Absentee Arrest of Gutseriev
The Moscow City Court sustained legality of absentee arrest of former Russneft chief Mikhail Gutseriev. Charged with illegal entrepreneurship and tax evasion, Gutseriev is on the international wanted list now, RIA Novosti reported.
The Moscow City Court has sustained today legality of absentee arrest of Mikhail Gutseriev, having overruled the appeal of his lawyers filed against the award of Tver Court of Moscow.
Mikhail Gutseriev is accused of illegal business carried out by a group of persons on particularly large scale and of tax evasion. According to Russia’s detectives, Gutseriev is abroad now. The businessmen has been added to the international wanted list to launch the worldwide search.
Gutseriev vacated the office of Russneft president in late July. He made a statement calling all charges “ridiculous and beneath even the superficial criticism.” At the same time, Gutseriev pledged he wouldn’t withdraw overseas the assets of Russneft but yield control to a new owner.
It looks like this new owner is Basic Element of Oleg Deripaska. One of the company’s firms has applied to the Federal Antimonopoly Service for the sanction to buy out 100 percent in Russneft.
Russneft is one of Russia’s ten biggest oil and gas companies. It unites 30 production enterprises, three refineries, two transport firms and a chain of 300 gasoline service stations.
