Rosselkhoznadzor Attempts to Take U.S. Cargo Under Control
Russia’s Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Control Service (Rosselkhoznadzor) has suggested the Food Safety and Inspection Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture preliminary notify it about any U.S. cargo addressed to consignees of Russia.
The reason of this proposal, Rosselkhoznadzor specifies, is that the U.S. cargo is sometimes delivered to Russia under improper documents.

The Primorie department of Rosselkhoznadzor, for instance, halted the import of 24 tons of cutoff pork and 25 tons of pork from the United States. In the first consignment, the name of manufacturer at the veterinary certificate didn’t correspond to the name given in the labels. The import of 25 tons of pork was suspended because of the difference in the date of production given at the product and spelled out in the veterinary certificate.

Rosselkhoznadzor promptly informed the U.S. Safety and Inspection Service about the gross breach of Russia’s veterinary laws and suggested sorting out the problem by giving in advance the online notification about the U.S. cargo to be inspected by Rosselkhoznadzor.

The cases of importing the poor quality goods have become more frequent recently. In July, Rosselkhoznadzor stopped 27 consignments with the livestock product from 15 states. The aggregate weight reached 1,168 tons.
