Russia’s Space Agency to Build a Base in the Moon
Russia’s Federal Space Agency, Roskosmos, intends to build a permanent base in the moon, Interfax reported with reference to Roskosmos chief Anatoly Perminov.
”We intend to construct our own manned station in future in the moon and open the route for the Earth-Moon-Earth space vehicles,” Perminov said in the interview available at Roskosmos website.

“In the moon, we will be able to prepare the Mars flight more efficiently,” the official explained. “The moon may turn into a sort of outpost to the red planet.”

The plans are to make automatic unmanned flights under the Moon-Glob program till 2015. The space vehicles searching for most advantageous areas will be launched from 2016 through 2025, while the manned flights are slated to begin after 2026. The manned base is to be put into operation in the moon from 2027 to 2032, Perminov specified.
