APEC OKed Russia’s Entry to WTO
Australia and other member states of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, or APEC, have backed up the speedy admission of Russia to the WTO, said Russia’s envoy to APEC Vasily Dobrovolsky.
”We hope our entry to the WTO will happen soon, and we are grateful to Australia and other members of APEC that backed up our soonest entry to the WTO,” RIA Novosti quoted Dobrovolsky as saying when addressing reporters in Russia’s news center in Sidney.
Two thirds of Russia’s territory is in the Asian and Pacific region, Dobrovolsky went on, specifying that Russia’s national interests are tied with the work in APEC.
”Russia will be more active in APEC,” Dobrovolsky emphasized, pointing out that he forecasts by 99.9 percent that the current summit will decide to hold the 2012 forum of APEC in Russia’s Vladivostok. President Vladimir Putin proposed Vladivostok past year, during the forum in Hanoi. “Anyway, I’ve heard no voices against it,” Dobrovolsky said.
The current forum set to work September 2 and will last for a week. The meeting at the highest level is slated for September 8 to 9.
APEC unites 19 states, including Russia, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
