Production of Pirate Software Manuals Closed Dn
Big production of counterfeit manuals for Microsoft software has been closed down in Moscow; the damage is estimated at $10 million, RIA Novosti reported.
In Moscow, the investigators revealed and put an end to the underground production facilities releasing counterfeit manuals for Microsoft software; 20 persons were detained in the course of investigation, said Philip Zolotnitsky, chief of the economic crime division of Interior Ministry’s Main Department for Moscow. The criminal facilities had operated in the city for ten years, the detectives said, having stripped Microsoft of over $10 million.

The firm was incorporated in Moscow under the lost passport. The probe is underway, and the current concern of investigators is to study financial files of the company, which used to produce counterfeit manuals along with CDs by orders of universities, centers of computer technology studies and other educational institutions of Russia.

To begin with, the police made a few checking purchases. The next decision was to search premises, arrest manufacturers of counterfeit product and seize facilities of Europe-make costing a few million dollars. The criminal case was opened on count of copyright violation, which spells out imprisonment of up to five years.
