Digging at Place of Tsar Family Burial Is Completed
Digging at the place of the so-called second burial of the family of Russia’s last Emperor Nicolas II has been completed, Interfax reported with reference to Sergey Pogorelov, deputy head of the archeological department of the Center of Protecting and Using Sverdlov Region’s Historical and Cultural Monuments.
The guards keep watch over the place to prevent “any violence,” Pogorelov specified, pointing out that the “ash that had mixed with the soil in the course of time” remained after the bones were dug out.
Sverdlov Region’s authorities are willing to install a monument at the place of the burial, ITAR-TASS reported. The respective request has been submitted to the region’s government already.
In August 2007, archeologists claimed they found remains of two persons, supposedly Crown Prince Alexey and Grand Princess Maria at Staraya Koptyakovskaya road near Yekaterinburg. The remains are currently studied at Sverdlov Region’s center of forensic medical examination and the plans are to complete the probe in four to six months. The Prosecutor General Office resumed the criminal case initiated in 1993 following the discovery of the Tsar family remains.
