Russia’s Watchdog Orders to Check Toys of Mattel Make
Gennady Onishchenko, who heads Russia’s Federal Service for Consumer Rights Supervision, Rospotrebnadzor, has ordered to probe into the vendors of children’s toys of Mattel-make and withdraw such toys from the sale in case of need, Interfax reported.
”I suggest inspecting companies that sell toys of Mattel with particular attention paid to toy cars, dolls, figures, sets of toys,” Onishchenko said in the letter addressed to the chiefs of territorial divisions of Rospotrebnadzor.
It is necessary “to analyze sanitary and epidemiological conclusions that have been given previously and make additional laboratory tests, including for lead content in the specified goods.”
“If higher concentration of hazardous substance is revealed, the actions should be taken to halt the sale of toys.”
Due to the higher lead content, Onishchenko went on, Mattel is removing from market the toys made in China; the recall covers 436,000 toys. Moreover, the company recalls magnetic toys produced from January 2002 through January 2007.
