Russia’s Air Forces to Get Innovated Aircraft by 2011
Russia’s Air Forces will get by 2011 modern pilotless aircraft of various types, including the combat aircraft, Air Forces Commander-in-Chief Col.-Gen. Alexander Zelin told reporters Thursday to further escalate the sabre-rattling rhetoric of military.
Development of pilotless aircraft is one of Russia’s priorities today, Zelin emphasized, pointing out that a special program has been elaborated, which clarifies the role, place and development stages for these combat systems.

The creation of such aircraft was set into motion in time of the Soviet Union, but the work wasn’t completed due to economic difficulties of 1990s. “Combat systems, which foundation was laid ten to 12 years ago, have just started reaching the units. Those are mostly combat systems with reconnaissance pilotless aircraft,” Zelin said.

”Nowadays, the work is underway to create combat systems with aircraft of various designation - reconnaissance, attacks, retransmission of control signals, target indication to attack weapons. Both unmanned planes and helicopters are being developed. Some of the types will solve missions at the distance of 300 kilometers to 400 kilometers and have the flight duration of ten to 12 hours.
