Three Russians Arrested in NY on Suspected Fraud Scheme
Three Russians were arrested in New York on suspected visa fraud. One of them is the U.N. employee, Reuters reported with reference to the U.S. federal prosecutors.
Translator of documents at New York headquarters of United Nations, Vyacheslav Manokhin of Russia is said to have used U.N. letterhead to provide documents to foreigners confirming their participation in conferences. But those conferences either didn’t exist or weren’t attended by Manokhin’s clients.
Manokhin was detained together with another Russian, Vladimir Derevyanko, who is said to have prepared the false documents.
The third suspect is Kamilian Tursunov. He is accused of buying false documents for $15,000 to get a visa. Tursunov was arrested earlier for failure to appear before the immigration officials.
The trio was charged with collusion targeted at forgery. Manokhin’s lawyer declined to comment on the case.
