Russia to Limit Imports of Britain’s Cattle
Russia’s farming product watchdog, Rosselkhoznadzor intends to impose temporal ban on imports of Britain’s cattle once the outbreak of hoof and mouth disease there is officially confirmed, RIA Novosti announced with reference to Rosselkhoznadzor briefer Alexey Alekseenko.
”Yes, the restrictions will be imposed. As far as I know, we haven’t received the official confirmation (about the outbreak of hoof and mouth disease) yet,” the official said, specifying that the required information will be available in the nearest hours.
Rosselkhoznadzor experts are studying all data related to the outbreaks of diseases of cows, sheep and pigs in Britain.
It emerged Friday that roughly 60 animals in one of the Britain’s farms (Guildford, the county town of Surrey) caught the hoof and mouth disease. The authorities decided to kill all infected cattle of the farm, establish the estrangement territory of three kilometers and introduce the quarantine of ten kilometers around the farm. Britain also imposed a temporarily ban on any delivery of cattle and pigs.
The last big outbreak of hoof and mouth disease was registered in Britain in early 2000s, forcing the farmers to kill big names of cattle and halting the exports for a few years.
