Bush Sanctioned Larger Eavesdrop on Foreigners
U.S. President George W. Bush signed into law Sunday the bill widening the power of intelligence to eavesdrop on foreigners.
The legislation, which is deemed one of the highlights in the White House, allows to intercept electronic communication and eavesdrop on foreign terror suspects without any warrant given to the effect.
“When our intelligence professionals have the legal tools to gather information about the intentions of our enemies, America is safer,” Bush said as quoted by The Association Press.
The legislation has been strongly opposed by right defenders, who say it goes too far and enables to eavesdrop on the U.S. residents communicating with foreigners.
The House passed the legislation early August 5, and the Senate voted for it August 3.
