Vodka Prices to Surge in Russia
The vodka price is likely to surge in Russia by the year-end, Pavel Shapkin, president of National Alcohol Association, told reporters Wednesday.
”Our forecast is that the alcohol price will surge to 70 rubles per liter, i.e. 30 percent, by the year-end. As a result, vodka will go up by 5 rubles to 6 rubles at best, Shapkin said.
The surge in vodka prices could be even higher in view of New Year holidays, when demand for alcohol and prices for it manifest traditional growth.
According to Shapkin, the increase in grain prices doesn’t materially affect vodka prices despite that the raw accounts for 70 percent of alcohol prime-cost.
The forecasted surge, Shapkin explained, roots in difficulties that producers are bound to face once the EGAIS system finally takes effect November 1, 2007.
Unified State Automated Information System, or EGAIS, is designated to make automatic government’s control over production and turnover of ethyl alcohol, alcohol and alcohol product. Its general imperfection has entailed lots of problems for producers already.
