Russia’s Defense Threatened by Composite Shortage
The shortage of new composite materials of Russia’s make that are used to produce combat machinery and armaments threatens security of the country, said First Vice Premier Sergey Ivanov.
”Today’s number of so-called scarce materials for our defense exceeds 1,500 items,” Ivanov said Tuesday at the meeting of Russia’s Defense and Industrial Commission.
”And this, as you realize, threatens defense capacity and economic safety of the state already,” the official explained.
So, it was decided to elaborate a separate Federal Target Program aimed at reviving Russia’s standing in development of new composite materials.
Russia’s Defense and Industrial Commission has met today at All-Russia’s Institute of Aircraft Materials. Right before the meeting, Ivanov was shown designs of the Institute. Composite materials of its make are used in various branches of the national industry but first of all in the aerospace sector. Set up in 1930s, the Institute is famous for developing Russia’s first aircraft armor.
