Russia Urges to Prevent Palestine’s Split
Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges to prevent Palestine from splitting into two independent entities, said the ministry after the talks between Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and President of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) Mahmoud Abbas in Moscow on Monday.
Due to intra-Palestine clashes in June 2007, just the West Bank of the Jordan river has remained under the PNA’s jurisdiction, while the Gaza Strip is now completely controlled by the radical Palestinian movement Hamas.

“In the current crisis, Palestine should be prevented from splitting into two isolated entities, by all means,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said after the talks between Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and PNA President Mahmoud Abbas.

Russia expressed concern over the exacerbation of the situation on Palestinian territories, especially in the Gaza Strip, and promised to continue giving various humanitarian and other aid to the Palestinians.
