Award to Seize French Villa Is Totally Ludicrous, Berezovsky Said
The award of Basmanny Court to seize villa that he rents in France is totally ludicrous, Boris Berezovsky made clear to Echo Moskvy broadcaster. This award “is devoid of sense, logics and law,” emphasized the exiled oligarch, who had been once the Kremlin insider.
The absurdity of this award is that Basmanny Court has no power to seize assets in any other country, it may just address authorities with the respective request. “Fortunately, the power of Basmanny Court extends only to Russia, otherwise, it will be a catastrophe,” Berezovsky pointed out.
Asked whether he is the owner of Clocher de la Garoupe that is mentioned by Basmanny Court, Berezovsky declared he never comments on his foreign assets, as FSB is keenly interested in them and will attempt to take them away.
Basmanny Court has sustained the request of Prosecutor General Office to seize Berezovsky’s real estate in France, Moscow City Court briefer Anna Usacheva announced Monday. The villa on Cote D’Azur is seized under the case initiated against Berezovsky for embezzlement of $13 million of SBS Agro funds. The prosecutors also seek sanction to arrest Berezovsky, but Basmanny Court will try this issue only on August 7.
