Gorbachev Comments on Clouded Relations of UK and Russia
The recent relations of Russia and Britain are abnormal, said Mikhail Gorbachev, former president of former Soviet Union. Similar situations happened in his time, Gorbachev went on, but Moscow and its foreign partners “had enough wisdom and political responsibility not to lose ties and new relations created between the restructuring Soviet Union and other states.”
According to Gorbachev, Russia’s policymakers should avoid cutting remarks related to the diplomatic scandal.

“One should bear in mind that we have strong bonds with Great Britain. Suffice it to say that London alone and adjacent region accommodate half a million of the Russians, and serious matters are being tackled there. I think all this should be appreciated and taken into account when formulating one or another position,” the former leader said.

As to the polonium murder of Alexander Litvinenko and Britain’s demand to extradite prime suspect Andrey Lugovoy, Gorbachev said that Britain is to provide to Russia all files under the case so that “our law enforcement system could be engaged.”

But efforts are being taken, Gorbachev acknowledged, to turn the business approach into political one. This is nothing else but an attempt to spoil relations of two countries, ITAR-TASS reported.

Gorbachev also said he won’t run for presidency at 2008 elections.
